Opportunities

Internships and Research

The Sociology and Anthropology Department encourages students to participate in internships, research projects, study abroad and independent studies, all of which prepare them for graduate study and careers in education, business, social services, and government.

Students may elect to complete an individually designed internship under the supervision of a faculty member and receive credit(s). Recent placements include:

  • Casa de Guadalupe
  • Clara House
  • Conflict Resolution Resource Center
  • Greensboro Urban Ministry
  • Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center
  • High Point Family Services
  • Lutheran Family Services
  • Pathways Homeless Shelter

Students also have opportunities to conduct research under the supervision of a faculty member, which can lead to writing a senior thesis, Departmental Honors and/or publication. Recent thesis topics include:

  • The Chinese Immigrant Experience
  • Racism and Civil Rights
  • Women and the Mental Health System
  • Prostitution and Religion in a Southern Andean Community

Field Trips and Experiential Learning Activities

DC Trip
Above are some sociology and anthropology majors on a field trip to Washington, DC. Field study is regarded as integral experiential learning which complements the course materials.
