Rexford Adelberger
Rex came to Guilford College in the fall of 1973 as Guilford's only physics teacher. Today he is the old man in the department, still in awe of what students do at Guilford College and very proud of the graduates.
He got his walking papers in physics at The College of William and Mary and then later from the University of Rochester. His interests and abilities lie in the more applied or experimental parts of physics.
Beautiful graceful bridges, soaring towers, Gothic cathedrals and beer gardens are the focus of his professional interests. The structures that the human folk have left behind for us to see tell us much about the thoughts of the builders and of the elegance of nature.
In his spare time, Rex is the editor and producer of the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics, is an elected councilor for the Council of Undergraduate Research in Physics, is the NCAA faculty athletic representative at Guilford College and is involved in the Society of Physics Students.
For relaxation, he can be found building houses, cooking gourmet meals, singing great music, playing tennis (well) or golf (poorly), or traveling to see the wonders of the real world.
