Music Major Information
Music Scholarship
If you are a music major, you will be automatically granted scholarship funding in the amount of the performance fees for your private lesson. In order to maintain your scholarship from semester to semester, your grade point average in your music academic courses (i.e., theory/history/conducting/pedagogy) must be 3.0 or above. You are also required to attend at least 75% of departmental recitals and concerts each semester.
Keys to Practice Rooms
A key to practice rooms in Dana Auditorium may be obtained through security (in Baumann) for a $25.00 deposit, which is paid at the Business Office. You must take a key request form, signed by a music professor, when you apply for a key. The deposit is refunded when the key is returned.
Junior and Senior Recital Checklist
- Plan your recital in advance. Choose a recital date in consultation with your studio teacher by 9/30/06 (fall recital) or 1/30/07 (spring recital). Make sure your accompanist and any assisting performers are available for the recital hearing and recital date. When you have confirmed the dates with those mentioned above, e-mail your date/time to reservations@guilford.edu.
- Schedule your recital hearing with your studio teacher. The hearing must be held no later than four weeks prior to the scheduled recital date. If the recital is not prepared satisfactorily for the hearing, a subsequent hearing will be scheduled at the discretion of the music faculty.
- Fill out a hearing form and proposed recital program and bring five copies of each to the recital hearing.
- Contact the Music Department assistant to arrange for a recording of your recital.
