Mike Chamis Biography
Mike has taught guitar at Guilford College since Fall, 2005. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance/Classical Guitar from Guilford College (Spring 2005), North Carolina “A” Certification for Music K-12 from Winston-Salem State University (Spring 2007), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill (Fall 1985).
He worked as a classroom teacher of guitar in the Guilford County Schools for two years (2005-2007) at the middle and high-school level. Before attending Guilford College in 2002, Mike taught guitar and electric bass privately, maintaining a weekly roster of students for over 15 years. He has also performed at festivals, schools, and music clubs since 1981, including seven years as music director for Wheel Theatre Company of Winston-Salem (1992-1999).
Currently, Mike is serving as director of publicity for the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society and is a player in the Piedmont Guitar Orchestra. He strives for a global, student-centered approach to the learning of guitar, integrating sounds and techniques from popular music to enhance the student's understanding and appreciation of the classical guitar tradition.
