Student Summer Scholarships

Japan-American Student Conference

What?
For several years Guilford students have welcomed the opportunitiy to participate in Japan-American Student Conference (JASC). The JASC is a 69-year old non-profit educational and cultural summer exchange program for university students from the United States and Japan. JASC provides a month-long opportunity for American and Japanese students from diverse backgrounds to extensively discuss issues that affect these two nations and the world. The aim is that, by working together to confront common concerns,  countries can improve our partnerships. The site of the conference alternates between Japan and the United States.

When to apply?
Applications for the JASC must be postmarked March 1. Applications may be printed out from the website www.jasc.org.  Students should start working on the application early since the writing of several short essays is required. Interested students may wish to seek the help of the East Asian faculty during the application process. See Dottie Borei, George Guo, or Hiroko Hirakawa.

\Who is eligible?
There is no preference in majors/concentrators, but students with a 2.8 GPA or above are preferred.

Other Summer Opportunities

Students may also apply for support to participate in summer internships in East Asia or attend a summer language institute.
