B.A., French, 1996, Wake Forest University
M.A., French Literature, 1998, Univeristy of Virginia
I suppose I became a Francophile at a young age after learning my first French word ("une bougie") from a Dr. Seuss dictionary. In college I was able to study abroad for two semesters: one in Dijon and the other in Paris. Paris is not only my favorite city in the world, it is one of my strongest interests, along with 19th-century French literature.
After teaching middle school and high school French in Virginia for several years, I came to Guilford in 2005. I enjoy exposing my students to the cultures of the Francophone world, allowing them to see connections between French and English, and encouraging them to communicate using technology. Most importantly, we approach all of these things with a sense of humor! I especially enjoy getting to know my students at our weekly Table Française, or informal conversation time. In addition to teaching, I am the language lab supervisor, this gives me the opportunity to help students gain additional practice with the language they are studying.
