Environmental Studies at Guilford College
Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes the relationship between humans and the environment. It allows students to study and address a fundamental issue of our times -- the quality of the Earth's environment and the sustainable use of its natural resources. The program's focus on justice, global awareness, service to the larger community, and the concept of Nature as sacred are in keeping with Guilford's five academic principles and its Quaker heritage.

Annual Environmental Studies Forum
Tuesday April 27th, 2010
Location: Founder's Gallery, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Every year, Environmental Studies presents a Spring Forum to highlight the diverse academic projects our students have engaged in as part of their Environmental Studies curriculum. The program will include student presentations from a wide variety of courses, and will also celebrate the scholarly work of Bob Williams who recently completed a book on the topic of Environmental Economics. Please contact Angie Moore (amoore@guilford.edu) if you'd like to attend, all ENVS majors, minors, and faculty are invited and lunch will be provided!
**Study Abroad and Internship Scholarship Opportunity for Guilford ENVS students **
In April 2009, the Environmental Studies Program of Guilford College was selected as one of the few
colleges in the country to receive a grant from the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. One of the core
purposes of the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation is to “preserve and promote the environment.” We greatly appreciate the generous support from this foundation, and are proud to announce that these funds will be used to support merit-based student scholarships for study abroad and internship opportunities that demonstrate values and
interest for the environment.
We would like to congratulate Ben Ardel (Environmental Studies, History), Nick Forman (Environmental Studies, Biology), and Courtney Mandeville (Environmental Studies, Biology) on their selection as the 2010-2011 recipients of the Cargill Award!
