Theatre Studies

Select another department:

“We nurture artists who want to make a difference through the art of theatre.”

- Jack Zerbe, professor, Department of Theatre Studies

Guilford’s Theatre Studies department is committed to rigorous theatre training within the broader context of a challenging liberal arts education.  We are a community of artists focused on examining and contributing to the social significance of theatrical production in the contemporary world.

The theatre curriculum creates a common knowledge base, while building expertise in a single focused area for actors, designers, directors and dramaturgs. Our full range of classes offers students artistic, technical and intellectual challenges that develop those abilities essential for future success.

Our alumni have been accepted in graduate programs at Yale, NYU, Harvard, Tufts, UCLA, Rutgers, and Indiana University. Some have gone onto careers in professional theatres around the country as actors, administrators, designers, directors, and technicians. Others have chosen career paths outside the theatre, such as business, education, law, the ministry and photography.
