Why Health Sciences at Guilford?
Health Science is an interdisciplinary field which links scientific inquiry and the application of this knowledge to improve the quality of life. The Health Sciences program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in any of the health professions.
The program includes several tracks:
- Medicine
- Dentistry
- Veterinary Medicine
- Physician Assistant
- Pharmacy
- Physical Therapy
- Athletic Training
At Guilford, students have the opportunity to work in small classroom and lab settings; emphasis is placed on developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills while providing a solid foundation in basic and health-related sciences. Students choose introductory and advanced study from among courses in the Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Sports Studies and the Social Sciences.
Our Health Professions Advising Program provides the support that students need to be well prepared for further study. Students receive one-on-one guidance and assistance with choosing classes, the application process and preparation for graduate school interviews. Both the program and the professors are dedicated to helping students organize and package the interdisciplinary science courses required for entry into any graduate program in the health professions.
Health Science internships and research projects give our students opportunities to gain real world experience. Students have completed internships at Moses Cone Family Health, with local dentists, at the North Carolina Zoo and through Study Abroad programs. “Guilford alumni are presently enrolled in graduate programs in the health professions throughout North Carolina and the rest of the US.
