Why Foreign Languages at Guilford?

Guilford strives to impart a sense of global community in its students, a goal greatly served by the Foreign Languages Department.

From introductory language classes to cultural explorations taught exclusively in the language of study, Guilford excels. The Foreign Languages Department offers courses in:

  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Spanish

Courses put great emphasis on the cultures in which these languages are spoken. Students examine a wide range of aspects from the political, social, and historical to the artistic and literary elements of these cultures.

All students at Guilford, especially those interested in foreign languages, are encouraged to study abroad. Guilford College offers programs around the world providing many opportunities for students to experience diverse cultures.

The Guilford College commitment to community, both on a local and global scale, is evident in the many clubs and activities in which foreign language students are involved. Organizing activities ranging from conversation tables to festivals, Foreign Languages students and faculty are active members of the community.
