Why Art at Guilford?

Guilford isn’t like most colleges, and neither is its art department. Rather than feeling lost or crowded in a large shared space, the studio feels like your second home. Instead of experiencing an intimidating and serious class atmosphere, you could be experiencing a casual and enjoyable creative place. At Guilford, our art faculty members are talented enough to teach you new methods and media, and smart enough to give you the creative freedom you need. Any person who seriously enjoys creating and expressing themselves through art should study at Guilford, because here you are surrounded by people who feel the same way.

Guilford’s art classes are small in size in order to ensure that each student gets extensive one-on-one interaction with their professors. This also helps create a close-knit community among your classmates and in the department as a whole. Despite its smaller size, Guilford offers many different opportunities to its students. Study abroad options in multiple countries, being a teacher’s assistant for an active Guilford class, being an intern for credit with local galleries or businesses and participating in the Honors Senior Thesis are just a few of the many opportunities that Guilford’s Art Department offers.
