The Center for Principled Problem Solving Interdisciplinary PPS Pilot Project Initiative
Application & Proposal Requirements -Fall 2007
Individuals or groups interested in the Pilot Project Initiative should submit the information indicated below to the CPPS by November 2nd, 2007. Proposals should be approximately two to four pages in length. Additional published material may be submitted in support of the proposal. Please submit the following:
- A list of Project Director(s) and Participants names and Guilford affiliation if applicable. If the project will need to add participants, please indicate this and indicate how possible participants will be identified and recruited.
- A brief description of the social concern or opportunity to be addressed by the project. Indicate why it is of interest to the applicant(s).
- A description of how the project will attempt to address or respond to the identified concern or opportunity. Be as specific as possible in addressing context, method and approach. Projects may engage issues at any one or combination of the three levels of Principled Problem Solving: Foundations: critical thinking, analysis, skills, and values; Practice: case studies in the classroom; Application: addressing complex problems in the world in innovative ways. This description should include indication of how one or more of the College’s core values will inform and shape the project.
- A brief indication of how the project includes (or will come to include) an interdisciplinary understanding of and/or approach to the issue or opportunity the proposal seeks to address.
- A preliminary list of publications or other academic resources consulted in preparing the proposal, or that may be of help in guiding the proposed project as it develops.
- A list of efforts that have sought to engage the issue or opportunity the proposal seeks to address.
- A preliminary timeline of project and project-related actions and events. The initial phase of the Pilot Project efforts will conclude in December of 2008.
RESOURCES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Pilot Projects will be eligible for CPPS Project Development Funds of up to $500 to cover expenses directly related to project development (meetings, books, travel, guest speakers, etc.).
- Pilot Project Directors will receive assistance from the CPPS staff in identifying and completing external grant opportunities.
- Pilot Projects will receive planning, meeting, administrative and publicity support from the CPPS staff.
- Projects selected for the Initiative will participate in the Spring 2008 Principled Problem Solving public event(s) scheduled for next March. Details to follow.
- Brief final reports or projects in a format appropriate to the focus of each project will be required of all Initiative projects.
