Men's Rugby
The Men's Rugby Club seeks to be an inclusive association on campus, giving all comers an opportunity to continue their rugby playing, pick up a new game, get and stay in shape, and socialize in one of the most down-to-earth sports environments at Guilford College. No experience is required. All players are welcomed and respected and there are no cuts. The Rugby Club comprises current and former varsity multi-sport athletes, former high-school rugby players, soccer players, wrestlers, football players, frisbee nuts, actors, activists, martial artists, and other good people from every walk of life and many social groups on campus. The club is as competitive as it is relaxed, however. Guilford often plays teams in higher divisions as well as much larger schools (Wake Forest, WCU, UNCC, UNCG, Elon, Duke...)
The team is coached by volunteers and alumni, and practices are held three times per week, and in accordance with changing light restrictions and academic loads. Games are held at home or away on Saturdays. Regular socials are hosted in the campus area which give the players, opponents, and friends an excuse to forget the 80-minute battle on the pitch, relax, and get to know each other.
Rugby is a sport for all body types and frames of mind, and starting fitness levels. The current club includes about 30 members, and is always looking for new players. Rugby is experiencing a resurgence at Guilford, with the last two years yielding the first winning conference season and first undefeated friendly season in recent history. If you attend Guilford and want to give rugby a try, or if you are a high-school rugger with questions, please contact Max George (georgemb@guilford.edu) and come see why rugby is the game for everyone at Guilford.

After a very strong showing this year, Guilford's rugby club found itself in the wrong end of a demanding academic season with more than a few sidelining injuries. Despite earning a quarterfinalist spot in the Rugby South playoffs, the boys were unable to source a complete squad of players fit for competition. Their season will continue with friendly matches and hosting the "Chabotar Cup" at home.
