Graduation Check List for Students
Every graduating senior must submit an Application for Graduation prior to registering for his/her final semester at Guilford College.
Pre-application Information and Tips
Graduation Requirements at Guilford College for First Degree
Guilford College uses semester hours for units of credit.
For the baccalaureate degree, students must:
- earn a minimum of 128 semester hours of credit;
- earn a minimum cumulative grade-point average of C (2.00) ;
- complete a minimum of 32 semester hours of credits at Guilford;
- complete half their major(s) while enrolled at Guilford;
- complete half their minor(s) while enrolled at Guilford;
- spend their last semester of study at Guilford;
- file their application for degree candidacy online at least one semester before their anticipated date of graduation.
The "C-credit Accumulation Plan" is an alternative to the four-year degree and is normally adopted after a period of academic separation from the college. The plan requires prior approval of the associate academic dean and the completion of 128 semester credits. Sixty-four of these credits must be a completed at Guilford with a grade of C (2.00) or higher. While only grades of C (2.00) and better count toward graduation, a grade below C results in permanent dismissal. Transcripts for student on the plan indicate actual grades.
Once all requirements for graduation have been completed, students are only allowed to participate in the ceremony for which they apply to graduate.
Notes
** Consortium Members are Bennett College, Elon College, Greensboro College, Guilford Technical Community College, High Point University, NC A&T State University & UNCG
About enrolling in Consortium courses in the graduating semester, be aware - and be concerned! - that host institutions' semesters may end later than the Guilford College term and therefore cause enough of a delay posting a final grade to jeopardize graduation. A senior who registers for a Consortium course his/her final semester is responsible for arranging with the host school instructor and registrar to get final grades to Guilford College before the due date and time published on the college calendar. Host schools are under no obligation to grant early exams or submit early grades.
Access Degree Evaluations (via BannerWeb) to determine unfulfilled requirements, verify transfer credit, or whether previously approved substitutions or waivers are applied. Resolve problems with the appropriate major(s) or minor chairperson(s).
Processing an Application for Graduation
The Application for Graduation is submitted online, accessed from either (1) here or (2) individual student account on BannerWeb.
Once an Application for Graduation is submitted, a message confirms that the graduation hold is cleared for pre-registration. Also, the application is filed with Center for Continuing Education (CCE), if appropriate, and the Registrar's Office, where processing involves reviewing and troubleshooting potential problems. A student is notified via Guilford College e-mail when a problem exists.
