QLSP Queries for Reflection and Recommitment

Participation in the Quaker Leadership Scholars Program is determined annually through a process of student self-reflection and staff and QLSP leadership's determination about the appropriateness of continued affiliation with QLSP. The following queries are intended to help in the process of reflecting on what involvement in QLSP has meant to you.

Please consider these queries carefully and respond in essay format. In the past, student responses have typically been 2-3 pages in total. Your responses are due to Max Carter by 5 pm, Monday, March 26. Thank you.

Query 1
Where has my energy been this year? What programs or activities have nourished me in QLSP? Outside QLSP?

Query 2
What are my spiritual needs?

Query 3
What am I gaining from QLSP? What have I contributed to QLSP and the wider community?

Query 4
What would I like to change in myself or in QLSP?

Recommitment statement:
If you are willing to recommit to the responsibilities of full participation in QLSP for 2001-2002, please include a statement to that effect, indicating as appropriate what you understand full participation on your part to mean. Please sign your recommitment statement.

Commitment to QLSP for 2001-2002 will include attendance at programs and events as required; averaging 5 hours of "Quakerly" activity each week; participating in the committee work of QLSP; and these grade-level specifics:

Second-year
A yearlong, 2-credit course on spiritual formation; meeting with a spiritual friend on an on-going basis.

Third-year
A yearlong, 2-credit course on leadership and Quaker testimony; completion of an internship; planning of a major campus conference.

Fourth-year
A yearlong, 2-credit course on Quaker history, theology, and practice; completion of a senior project.

In addition, Lilly Grant planning will inevitably result in some reconfiguration of programs and expectations of QLSP. The Program will become tighter, rather than looser; more focused rather than less so; increasingly intentional in its spiritual and vocational components. Please bear in mind the likelihood of a greater expectation of personal commitment in QLSP as you consider your involvement.

Thank you for your participation in QLSP and for your careful response to these queries and commitment statements.
