GLBTQA

Resources available for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, and Allied (GLBTQA) Students

The Queer and Allied Resource Center (QuARC)

The QuARC is located in room 202 of Founders Hall. It was founded in 1996 and strives to serve gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, questioning, and allied students at Guilford College and in the greater Greensboro community. Aside from serving as a safe gathering space for queer students and their allies, the QuARC also contains a collection of over five hundred books and videos that cover a variety of GLBTQA issues and are available for students to use. The QuARC is open regularly throughout the week, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and is staffed by student volunteers. The QuARC also works to support the activities of Guilford PRIDE, by providing educational materials and space for meetings and special events, and sponsors weekly social gatherings every Thursday night at 9 p.m.

Guilford PRIDE

Building on a tradition of queer student activism dating back to 1974, Guilford PRIDE is the college's student group for GLBTQA students. It meets weekly on Monday nights at 8 pm and with the QuARC , holds several special events throughout the year. Meeting topics range from in depth discussions of queer issues to baking cookies. Ultimately, PRIDE serves at the voice of Guilford 's GLBTQA students.

Mission

A set of five officers and the College's Coordinator of GLBT services runs Guilford PRIDE and the QuARC jointly. Our combined mission is as follows:

  1. To provide educational and interactive programming for all interested members of the Guilford Community
  2. To enrich campus life by holding regular meetings and special events open to all members of the community
  3. To provide a safe space for GLBTQA students to interact, and to provide support for those dealing with the complex issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.
  4. To represent the interests of the GLBTQA community in the college faculty, staff, and administration, as well as to the greater Greensboro community.
