Our Department at a Glance

The Multicultural Education Department strives to educate and celebrate diversity and multiculturalism on the campus of Guilford College with an inclusive approach.  As our staff and students seek to build bridges on campus and in the greater Greensboro community, we invite you to be a catalyst for positive change by visiting with us and participating in programming and workshops sponsored by the department.

The Multicultural Education Department is comprised of four programs; Latino Community, GLBTQA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Allied) Community, Native American Community, Africana Community; and the Multicultural Leadership Scholars.

Building Bridges

We directly support the Guilford College Anti-Racism Team and work with Faculty Development in workshop programming and the Leadership Cooperative in the development of student leaders. In addition, the department partners with the International Student Advisor and alternative learning community, (The Learning Commons) to form a Multicultural Education Team.

Guilford College 's mission, core values, and strategic plan, specifically strategic priority 3.2 where it "recommits to being institutionally diverse and anti-racist,"   are consistent with the goals of the department. Multicultural Education strives to:

  1. Recruit and retain traditionally underrepresented populations by enhancing their educational, spiritual, cultural, physical and emotional development;
  2. Increase leadership and professional development among Guilford College 's underrepresented student population; and
  3. Excel at transformative education and the creation of a multicultural, anti-racist environment at Guilford College .
