Multicultural Education Department

Multicultural Education Department is comprised of four programs; GLBTQA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning, and Allied) Resources, Native American, Africana Community, and Multicultural Leadership Scholars. It also directly supports the Guilford College Anti-Racism Team and works with Faculty Development in workshop programming. In addition, the department partners with the International and Alternative Learning Community in order to form a Multicultural Education Team that insures the spread of diversity awareness in all aspects of college life.

Guilford College 's mission, core values, and strategic plan, specifically strategic priority 3.2 where it "recommits to being institutionally diverse and anti-racist"   are consistent with the goals of the department. Multicultural Education strives to:

  1. Recruit and retain traditionally underrepresented populations by enhancing their educational, spiritual, cultural, physical and emotional development;
  2. Increase leadership and professional development among Guilford College 's underrepresented student population; and
  3. Excel at transformative education and the creation of a multicultural, anti-racist environment at Guilford College .

The Multicultural Resource Center is located on the second floor of Founders Hall and part of the Multicultural Education Department. It is a meeting and resource room used to promote diversity and the understanding and celebration of various cultures. It can be reserved by any in the College Community or Greensboro Community for programming that seeks to uphold and promote the same values.
