Hege Library Technology and Wireless Guide
Hege Library has laptop computers available for students to check out from reserve for use in the library. Students may also use their own laptops and connect to the library's wireless network. Desktop computers, terminals, and other equipment is availble throughout Hege Library. See below for additional details about the technological resources available for use in Hege Library.
Laptops & Wireless network
- Microsoft software (Office, Explorer, etc.)
- Batteries sometimes last 3 hours (but accessory kits are available)
- Headsets (all with a 3 hour loan period)
- With a Guilford network login, can access sharespace and full network including printers
PCs
- Microsoft software (Office, Explorer, etc.)
- Info Village and Betty Place Classroom
- Cannot use most of Hege Libraries CD-ROMs on these machines
Public Terminals (non-PCs)
- Do not require Guilford login
- Provide access to the library's online resources and catalog
- Restricted to Internet Explorer and not intended for use beyond the library's site
- Cannot be used for printing and saving
Scanners:
- 2 Available on main floor- hooked up to 1 PC and 1 Mac
Printers/copiers
- Printing uses Guilford network
- Copying needs Quakercard (or help from circ desk)
- 1 lower level, 1 TLC, 2 main level
- Features both printing and copying include:
- Double sided (single to double and book)
- Sorting
- Enlarging/reducing automatic or manual
- Image density automatic or manual
- Document feeder
Betty Place Classroom- Lower Level
(reserve for class or workshop use - call Circulation Desk)
- PCs with standard software
- Technology enabled- has projector, teacher station, dvd/vcr and sound.
Screening room- Lower Level
(must reserve- call Circulation Desk)
- Has TV cart with a VHS/DVD player
- Multinational VHS player
(VHS is not exclusively the American format – NTSC is, vs. PALS for Europe) - Copying/transferring available
- All Hege Library videos on NTSC (American format)
Viewing rooms and stations (need key for Viewing Rm- ask at Circulation Desk)
- VHS, CD, audiotape, LP player, slide viewer
- Overhead projector also available
Microform readers
- Lower level/serials & FHC (Library 117)
- New user-friendly machine reads both microfilms & microfiche
- Dedicated printer (requires fob- please ask at the Circulation Desk)
TLC
- 9 computers (PCs and MACs)
- Kurzweil Reader/
- Image enlarger
- OpenBook system – scans text and reads it
- Many special learning programs
