Retirement Reception for Carol Cothern Held on March 27
The staff of Hege Library hosted the Guilford Community to celebrate CAROL COTHERN'S '88, 20-plus years of service at a retirement reception in her honor in the Art Gallery on Thursday, March 27, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Cothern began working in the library before her graduation from the college, serving as a student assistant in media services, then part of the library. Upon graduation, she accepted the full-time position of library assistant for technical services. Besides the core responsibility for purchasing the library materials selected to support the curriculum, her job grew to include general accounts management for the Library, processing of gifts, supplies management, and administrative support for the Friends of the Library. Cothern also experienced both the original implementation of NC-PALS automated library system and its migration to a new system in 2004. The college recognized the increased complexity of her job by regrading her as library associate in 2001.
Besides her work in the library, Cothern has served the Guilford in many capacities -- as an officer of the Academic/Administrative Support Staff Association, represesntive to Benefits and Cultural Pluralism Committees and as a charter member of the Anti-Racism Team. She remains an active member of New Garden Friends Meeting.
