Another part will be devoted to leadership development. A professional speaker will speak and Vivian Lutian will discuss Myers Briggs (see complete Myers/Briggs for more information).

Committee Reports:

Per Nicole Cornett’s notes from The Investment Committee, the largest portion of the meeting was covering the College’s investment portfolio…currently performing well in the Bull market. The committee is making some asset allocation changes to prepare for the markets natural dip.

Also per Nicole notes from The Finance Committee

The Finance Committee has concern with the current spending habits of the college and not having a balanced budget due to cash flow deficiencies because of lowered enrollment specifically in Summer/CCE but more specifically building improvement cost such as the King/Duke Hall renovations. These items have caused the committee to call for tighten of the college’s spending habits.

Per Aishia Kirkland’s notes from The Diversity Plan Committee, she noted highlight of the restructuring of the Native American Studies Program. They are in the process of rethinking the Native American and African American programs and letting students pick their own programs.  The committee spent a lot time responding to the Bryan Hall event. They also talked about all of the “isms” in our society and the different level of racism.

Per Cheryl Davis’s notes from the SLRP, Guilford is planning on implementing a plan where students may have to attend certain about of events and create a portfolio before they graduate. It is currently called the Guilford Challenge, which will be renamed later. Guilford College also hired ten new faculty members.

Also per Cheryl Davis’s notes from the Enrollment and Financial Aid, the enrollment numbers are down for CCE students. The CCE recruiter Rhonda Butler is currently investigating our competitors and coming up with new marketing strategies. Guilford will also offer new major courses in 2007 such as a Paralegal Program.  They are also talking about implementing a Graduate Program with the Business Department.  Other programs would follow.

Per Cephas Williams’s notes from the Building and Grounds, they are in process of improvements on campus, such as Milner Hall renovations.  He also spoke about the results of a survey given by Building and Grounds.  The survey response revealed that people love the landscape scenery on campus.  The school may buy land by lake on campus.

Considerations for Faculty Advisors:

The board needs someone who is an advocate for CCE students.

All possible Faculty Advisors will be interviewed.

Questions, Comments & Concerns:

Cephas mentioned we need to work on improving the current CCE/SGA reputation and communication methods.  Cephas also stressed the need to be cautious of our 2007-2008 budget.

Complete Myers-Briggs:

Nicole stated the purpose of the Myers-Briggs was to determine each member’s leadership styles. By doing this, we as a board will be able to understand the different leadership styles and respond to them accordingly. Vivian Lutian will present the results during our June 9th meeting.  Vivian will not disclose the names of each member’s leadership style, but just inform the group of the types of styles and how we should interact with these leadership styles.

Moment of Silence:

Cephas closed the meeting with a moment of silence.

Respectfully submitted by,

Sharna Dixon
