Working with Communications and Marketing
The Office of Communications and Marketing supports the academic, recruitment, development and marketing objectives of the college using an integrated approach. The staff assures that each project, whether print, electronic or display medium of communication, is designed with a clearly defined mission of purpose, is continually monitored as to its success in meeting its mission and adheres to the college’s graphic standards and style.
Creating Publications
Come to the Office of Communications and Marketing first. When you decide you need a publication, meet with us as soon as possible. We can help you plan out a timetable, determine a budget and create specifications. We can also plan it, write it, shoot photos, design it, assure that it meets all college standards and shepherd it through the bid process.

Give yourself plenty of time. Think on the order of months, not weeks. When you come to the Office of Communications and Marketing, allow a minimum of one month for production of a typical brochure.
The Publications Process
Schedule a time to meet with our staff to discuss your publications needs. Remember, the earlier the better.
Gather the following information for the initial meeting:
- The purpose of the piece
- The audience of the piece
- A delivery date
- A budget
- The quantity you need
- How you plan to distribute the piece
- Prepared text even if it is just a guideline
- Ideas for photographs and available artwork
- Any collateral pieces you may need (envelopes, reply cards, etc.)
Prepare text in Microsoft Word without formatting except for paragraphs and headings and send as an e-mail attachment.
You will be asked to approve a proof of your publication, review subsequent proofs as needed and approve a final proof.
What is your responsibility in reviewing proofs?
- Page order and numbers
- Spelling
- Punctuation
- Size and position of photos
- Phone numbers
- Mailing, e-mail and web addresses
