Web Policy
The Web policy defines the roles and obligations of the college, operational unit, and individuals in presenting material on the Guilford Web site.Web site owners are responsible for the content and design of their Web sites. This includes ensuring that all online material conforms to local, state and federal laws including copyright and other intellectual property laws, license agreements and contracts. Web site owners should protect material from inappropriate access.
Web site owners must ensure all information on their Web sites is accurate and timely.
Official Web sites must either use a standard Guilford template provided by IT&S or the site owner must work with IT&S to develop an approved template. Site owners wishing to develop templates should contact IT&S first to discuss the issue and obtain detailed requirements. IT&S will review all templates for usability and accessibility with final approval of college branding to be approved by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
Site owners considering outsourcing web development should contact IT&S first. They will assist the Web site owner to ensure that outsourcing efforts are not wasted. In the event that a department should wish to create a truly unique Web site without using the approved templates, it will take full responsibility for its creation and maintenance. All of the critical elements contained in official college Web pages must be present.
All components within the Guilford site share a common visual identity and navigation structure. Any portions of the college Web site that relates to Guilford should share this common visual identity and navigational structure. These features make the overall Web experience user friendly and reinforce the Guilford College brand.
All official pages should follow the college’s editorial and graphic style guides to maintain consistency in the use of punctuation, capitalization, titles and the college logo.
An official page is one that communicates official information about the college or one of its programs or offices and is maintained for that purpose by an academic department or administrative office. Official pages are subject to review and approval by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
A course-related page or site is one that supports one or more courses at the college. Web pages associated with a course are controlled by the faculty member who teaches the course and are not subject to approval by the Office of Communications and Marketing.
A non-official site can include personal pages, student-created sites and student organization sites. These are not reviewed by the Office of Communication and Marketing, but links on these sites may be restricted.
Questions or concerns about the Guilford College Web policies should be directed to the senior director of communications and marketing.
