Guilford College Mission
To provide a transformative, practical, and excellent liberal arts education that produces critical thinkers in an inclusive, diverse environment, guided by Quaker testimonies of community, equality, integrity, peace and simplicity and emphasizing the creative problem solving skills, experience, enthusiasm and international perspectives necessary to promote positive change in the world.
Core Values
The college's core values are based on, and consistent with, the five Quaker testimonies. Indeed, three testimonies -- community, quality and integrity -- are also core values. Core values are the essential and enduring tenets of the organization. They are: Community, Diversity, Equality, Excellence, Integrity, Justice and Stewardship.
The Department of Campus Life Mission
To support Guilford college's mission and core values through its programs, policies and personnel, preparing students for citizenship in an increasingly complex world by encouraging them to develop responsibility, accountability for oneself (both as individuals and as members of a community), and to obtain and develop the pragmatic life skills necessary to balance their academic and co-curricular involvement at the college.

The Dean's office provides administrative oversight and leadership for co-curricular programs and services designed to address student development, success and problem --solving. The Dean's office assists the college with system wide planning efforts as they relate to the lives of students outside the classroom and serves as an advocate for student needs and concerns. The Dean's office takes the lead in setting policy for non-academic student matters in the context of student development best practices.

The Department of Residence Life seeks to provide a safe and viable living and learning atmosphere for all residential students and to foster community and leadership. Residence Life provides a clean, comfortable, well-maintained and secure campus living environment that enhances collaboration, community, programming and scholarship between and among students, faculty and the staff, while expecting students to accept responsibility for their role in creating a positive living environment.

Student Conduct policies and procedures at Guilford College are designed to foster a campus community that enables students, faculty, and staff to pursue their educational and vocational goals in a secure and enriching environment. The student conduct code clearly outlines the standards and expectations for student behavior on campus as well as the associated consequences for violation of those standards of conduct. Staff members, through their individual interaction and the administration of the college's policies, provide students with a fair and consistent process for resolution of student concerns in keeping with the community's expectations.

In an effort to encourage positive development in its students, Guilford College provides opportunities for extracurricular involvement, guidance for students in transition, and assistance for students needing to withdraw from or temporarily leave the institution. Believing that students benefit from a strong connection to the community around them, the Student Development staff seeks to engage students in college life through orientation activities, student organizations, class governance, and other campus programs, providing a framework within which students can integrate their academic and co-curricular experiences.

Recognizing the educational value of experiences beyond the classroom, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership provides opportunities that engage and develop students. Student Involvement supports students in creating and implementing programs congruent with the core values of the college and that administer student activity fees in fiscally responsible manner. The Student Involvement and Leadership staff provides guidance, resources, leadership opportunities and event planning assistance that connects them to the entire Guilford College Community.

The Intramural Program provides a variety of avenues for the diverse members of the Guilford College community to participate in activities that stimulate the mind and body. Emphasis is placed on promoting healthier lifestyles, forming partnerships, upholding integrity and providing leadership opportunities both on and off the field/court.

The First Year Program includes both academic and student affairs components in its mission to provide a successful transition to college living and learning for traditional-age incoming students. At the heart of this mission is a fusion of classroom and co-curricular learning. In order to give opportunities for new students to acclimate to Guilford College, the First Year Program calls on faculty, staff, upper-class students, and first-year students to provide courses, social functions, and educational programming in every facet of student affairs and across the academic program.

The Counseling Center seeks to provide traditional students with opportunities for personal growth and exploration in a safe and caring environment. We are committed to helping students navigate the difficult transitions and challenges of college life, including relationship concerns, alcohol or drug use, issues with food and body image, academic or social pressures, depression, anxiety and grief. We provide crisis intervention, assessment, and short-term counseling at the center, with referral out available for longer term or more specialized counseling.

The Student Health Center delivers individualized medical care for traditional age students. The staff provides assessment and referrals, comprehensive medical evaluations and treatment for chronic and acute illness. The Student Health Center staff is committed to assuring that the quality of care is evaluated regularly and in accordance with State Law and Guilford's principles and core values.
