UPCOMING EVENTS:

star2009 Winter Walk for AIDSstar

Join the Guilford College team as we raise money for AIDS awareness! Contact Paula at GuilfordWellness@gmail.com for more info.

INFO MEETING: November 18, 7PM in Milner Lounge

On Sunday, December 6th, Triad Health Project will present the 18th Annual Winter Walk for AIDS, a three-mile walk that raises money and awareness to benefit THP as they work to help those affected by HIV/AIDS. The Walk is a powerful and moving experience as we remember those we have lost to AIDS, while looking to the future when HIV/AIDS is defeated. The event winds through the city's beautiful downtown neighborhoods with numerous teams - and thousands of individuals - walking, including groups from companies, schools, religious organizations, even friends and families. It is a great way to get a group together to kick off the holiday spirit showing compassion and raising vital money for AIDS care and prevention. If you are not able to attend the 2009 Winter Walk for AIDS, you can still support Walk by contributing on line here, or at www.triadhealthproject.com.

This program is sponsored by NC department of Crime Control & Public Safety, Division of Alcohol law Enforcement (NC ALE).

Students get behind the wheel of a golf-cart and drive through an obstacle course of traffic cones while wearing specially-designed impairment goggles that alter the vision and depth perception of the participant, mimicking the symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The student is also allowed to drive the course without the goggles, so that they can see the difference in their abilities when they are under the influence of alcohol. (www.nccrimecontrol.gov)

Drunk Busters on Wheels will take place on homecoming weekend, September 30 from 4 pm to 8 pm (location tba). The program is meant to educate students about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol by demonstrating its impairing effects.  We encourage all students to attend.

Sustainable Health Choices Health & Wellness Event Series

Sustainable Health Choices is a small business by two Guilford alumni here in Greensboro who "approach their work with an understanding that people are more effective when their health is addressed holistically."

This is a lifestyle and wellness program for Guilford College students looking to expand healthy living habits, which includes the following 3 workshops (cooking class, stress management and massage):

Healthy Eating on the Go – Feb 11, 2009

The cooking class is catered to all cooking levels. Sustainable Health Choices offers a myriad of types of classes of the most popular classes are: Green Glorious Greens, Healthy Eating On A Budget, Eating On The Go, Creative Lunches, etc. However, we feel that Eating on the Go is the best choice for Guilford students. College students are continuously on the go from classes to meetings to sports. This class will show a variety of quick and easy ways to maintain a healthy diet with a busy schedule.

Stress Management – TBA

The stress management class teaches skills and tactics for healthy living, including self-massage, breath work, and intentional food choices. Emphasis is placed on how stress plays out in an interaction between the mind and our way of thinking; our physical bodies; and emotional selves. We teach hands on skills and also discuss how stress manifests for individuals and how we can positively effect and manage it in our lives.

Massage – April 15, 2009

Combining Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Trigger Point massage techniques that is focused on improving circulation, relaxation, loosening stiff muscles and joints, and relieving long-term chronic muscle tension resulting from specific problems such as poor posture, or repetitive stress.
