Friday, May 9

College Bookstore Open

9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Lunch for students remaining on campus for Graduation

11:00am until 1pm in Cafe

Rehearsal

Dana Auditorium

Graduates’ attendance is required in order for Commencement to run smoothly and within reasonable time limits.  Last minute announcements or changes may be made at this time. Caps and Gowns are not needed.

Graduates whose names have a difficult pronunciation should see Jan Prillaman immediately following rehearsal.

In the event that the program is moved indoors, tickets for guests will be distributed at the conclusion of reherasal.

Baccalaureate

Dana Auditorium

A spiritual service developed by members of the Class of 2008, Baccalaureate celebrates Commencement and the significance of this change in their lives.  Graduates, their families and guests, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.  Caps and Gowns are not needed for this event.

President’s Reception

President Kent Chabotar invites graduates, and their families and guests, to this reception following Baccalaureate.

 

Saturday, May 10

The last opportunity for seniors to pick up pre-ordered caps and gowns will be during this time.

Lawn on the east side of Sternberger Auditorium (Rain Location: Alumni Gym)

Preparation for Procession

8:00 am (students not in line by 8:15 am will not be allowed to walk)

Lawn on the east side of Sternberger Auditorium (Rain Location: Swimming Pool area)

Graduates should line up alphabetically. Student marshals and staff will assist in the line up and in coordinating the procession.

Commencement

9:30 am

(All guests should be seated by 9:15am; the procession will begin at 9:30 a.m. sharp led by the Faculty Marshal, the President, members of the administration, the Board of Trustees, honorary degree recipients, and faculty.)

Lawn in front of King Hall

Guest speakers include Bruce Stewart, Guilford College trustee emeritus and head of school at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C; and representatives from the senior class.  President Kent Chabotar will deliver the charge to the class.
