Prerequisites, Procedures, Deadlines and Requirements
Prerequisites for Student Interns
- Current Guilford College student (traditional or CCE) or Guilford College alumnus/a
- Sophomore standing (24 or more credits earned)
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Approval of Faculty Advisor, Faculty Sponsor, Site Supervisor, and Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor

Procedures
- Speak with a faculty member in the department in which you would like to earn credit about setting up an internship. Request that s/he act as your Faculty Sponsor (Video: What's a Faculty Sponsor?).
- Apply for an internship with your chosen site(s) and obtain acceptance (Video: How to Find An Internship).
- Develop internship learning plan by answering in a separate document the 5 questions at the bottom of the Registration Form. Your Faculty Sponsor must sign the learning plan in addition to the registration form.
- Complete the appropriate paperwork (Video: How to Complete Internship Paperwork), including appropriate signatures.
- Submit the entire packet (registration form, learning plan, and non-paid agreement [if applicable]) to the Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor within two weeks of the last day to add a course.
Deadlines
- Students who wish to receive academic credit for their internships must submit all completed paperwork to the Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor within two weeks of the last day to add a course. Specific deadlines are provided on the academic calendar.
- Proposals received after the final deadline will not be accepted, and the student will be unable to earn academic credit. No retroactive credit for previous work will be given.
Requirements
- Clock hours: Students must work on-site a minimum of 144 hours for 4 credit hours, based on 36 on-site hours per credit hour.
- Academic Work: Academic assignments are based on the level of internship, 290 or 390 (What's the Difference?) All academic assignments are determined in agreement with the Faculty Sponsor and should be included on the internship plan. The learning plan must be signed by the Faculty Sponsor.
- Assessment: In addition to academic assignments, students must submit three final documents to the Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor before the last day of classes for the semester: 1) Intern's Final Evaluation of Internship; 2) Site Supervisor's Final Evaluation of Student; 3) a copy of the Thank You note to the Site Supervisor .
