Summer Work for Fall Credit Internships

Credit for a summer internship can be deferred until the following fall semester. It is imperative that the student follow the steps below in order to receive credit. Exceptions to these guidelines may be made at the discretion of the Faculty Sponsor and must be included in the Learning Plan. Further information is available on-line at: Video: Summer Work for Fall Credit.

BEFORE THE CONCLUSION OF THE SPRING SEMESTER:

  • Identify and meet with the faculty member who will oversee your internship (Faculty Sponsor).
  • Determine the details of questions #3 and #4 on the Registration Form: Method of contact (i.e. email); frequency of contact; evaluation tools; and, frequency of submission.
  • Complete internship registration form, learning plan, non-paid agreement (if applicable) and obtain appropriate signatures. Email approvals from all parties can be accepted in place of actual signatures. A copy of each email should be included in the registration packet. Be sure to include your summer contact information.
  • The completed internship packet is then submitted to the Internship Coordinator/ Vocational Counselor for review and approval.
  • Lastly, the internship packet is submitted to the Registrar's office for input into Banner. Students are advised to check their fall course schedule in Banner before beginning their on-site work to ensure that the internship registration is complete.

DURING THE SUMMER OF THE INTERNSHIP:

  • Write and submit weekly journal entries to your Faculty Sponsor. Email submission is acceptable.
  • Maintain regular contact with your faculty sponsor as agreed on the learning plan.
  • Complete final paper and other work as assigned by your Faculty Sponsor.

In the event that a student identifies a suitable internship site after the end of the spring semester, the above steps may be completed via electronic communications (email or fax) with the faculty sponsor, faculty advisor, site supervisor, and the Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor. Forms are available on-line by selecting this link: Internship Forms. The student is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all internship paperwork is completed appropriately.

Students must register an internship before beginning on-site work.

No retroactive credit will be granted for internship work that is not registered.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Internship Coordinator/Vocational Counselor at (336) 316-2187 or by email, internships@guilford.edu.
