290 vs. 390 Level Internships
290 Internships - The purpose of a 290 internship is to promote exploration in a specific field and encourage self-directed learning.
- A 290 Internship can be done in any department, regardless of the student's major/minor.
- The academic work in a 290 internship is primarily reflective in nature.
- A Student who has completed at least 24 credits (sophomore standing), with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, can register for a 290 internship.
- Evaluation for grading should be jointly determined by Student and Faculty Sponsor. Academic work at a 290-level typically includes:
- Reflection journal entries submitted on at least a weekly basis to the Faculty Sponsor, or
- A mid-term paper of 3 - 6 pages
- Final reflection paper of 5 - 10 pages
- Additional academic work to be integrated with hands-on experience in the student's journal entries or reflection paper may be assigned at the discretion of the Faculty Sponsor
390 Internships - The purpose of the 390 internship is to offer a culminating experience that challenges students to integrate classroom theory into practice, as it relates to a major or minor.
- A Student is eligible for 390 credit after completion of 4 courses within the department.
- Evaluation for grading should be jointly determined by Student and Faculty Sponsor. Academic work at a 390-level usually involves:
- Mid-term paper of approximately 5 pages
- Final paper of 15-20 pages in which student must identify pertinent questions related to field experience and research
- Portfolio (optional)
