Volunteer Sites
Community Learning is defined as the accomplishment of tasks which meet human needs in combination with conscious educational growth. Guilford students regularly involve themselves in addressing community needs through volunteer service in a variety of ways:
- Courses with service components;
- Service - oriented internships or independent studies for academic credit;
- Alternative break service projects;
- Noncredit service through ongoing campus groups or placement in service agencies off campus.
"Coming from a school which did not stress the value of hands-on learning, I have been impressed by the Guilford College community's dedication to political and social causes and I have become more inspired to become an active part in my community and society."
-- Gil Green, Guilford College Transfer Student
"In service-learning, students become enmeshed in authentic communal learning, and in an actual community, one other than their own."
-- Chris Weber, '98
