Our Project Coordinators have the choice of serving at one of our 13 committed service sites in the Greensboro Area with non-profit organizations, many of whom we have long standing relationships with. These service sites are maintained and organized by these student leaders with the aide and support of the community learning office. Internship credit is also available for those students who are intersted! These students are asked to commit to one service site  by providing support for and supervision of Guilford College Volunteers on a consistent basis and perform the following duties:

  • Recruit volunteers for their program by attending the Volunteer Fair (Fall), Service Opportunities Fair (Spring)
  • Develop other recruiting methods as appropriate for each respective project.
  • Plan and provide site specific training for volunteers that will help them develop skills needed to perform as a competent volunteer as well as to understand the cultural and political history of the people being served. Provide ongoing support and opportunities for reflection to ensure a positive experience and optimal learning for volunteers.

At the beginning of every academic school year Project Coordinators go through an intense 3-4 day training called the Leadership Pre-mester, before classes begin to get them acclimated to the leadership position and it's responsibilities. This training includes training in Conflict Resolution, Anti- Racism, Time Managment, Event Planning, Budgetting, and General Site Organization. After the Pre-mester Training, all of the coordinators are then asked to aide in leading 1 of the 3 service Avanti's that are our office provides which are; Homelessness Awareness, Project HOME, and the Multicultural Avanti.

2 Each site has a minimum of 1 coordinator while some require 2 coordinators. Out of these 13 committed sites, two of them are affiliated with a Fellowhip which provides a small stipend and has a few more requirements. These two sites deal with Hunger and A.I.D.S.of these sites have Project Coordinators who are given a small stipend as part of a Fellowship. These two fellowhsips are the; Bonner Hunger Fellowship in which 2 leaders work as a team to plan opportunities that educate and involve the Guilford College campus in hunger issues; and the Guilford College A.I.D.S. Fellowship in which 2 leaders work with a local non-profit in the wider Greensboro community working on HIV/AIDS issues. Events include: free HIV-testing on campus; a week focused on HIV/AIDS-related events; conferences; and opportunities for community service.

Project Coordinators are chosen based on relevant experience, an application process along with referrals from advisors, employers, and or a current project coordinator, and an interview with the the Community Learning Staff.  This is a great opportunity for students to gain growth and knowledge about their leadership skills, and gain valuable experiences for resume building as well as future career pursuits.
