College A.I.D.S. Awareness Project

Our Mission:
To attempt to further understand how to eliminate stigmas and stereotypes through a better understanding of how the disease affects people financially, emotionally, psychologically, and physically.

What We Do:
a.i.d.s. about A.I.D.S. stands for Acquiring Information and Destroying Stereotypes about A.I.D.S. The a.i.d.s. about AIDS program plans, coordinates, organizes, and implements HIV/AIDS prevention and care in Greensboro and on Guilford College campus. It includes a "Did You Know?" campaign aimed at making Guilford students more aware of the risks and reality of HIV/AIDS. Fundraisers for the local AIDS project, Triad Health Project, are a part of a.i.d.s. about AIDS' work because raising money for services is integral to keeping people healthy while preventing the spread of HIV. This organization makes the annual AIDS/Hunger stroll a continually successful event by bringing in speakers, providing demonstrations, and gathering can goods for a food pantry that benefits people with HIV/AIDS. Also, a.i.d.s. about AIDS celebrates World AIDS Day with the global community through an awareness event that recognizes those who have died of AIDS. This group also offers HIV testing on campus both semesters of a school year. The a.i.d.s. about AIDS volunteers work with HIV and AIDS patients in Greensboro through the Triad Health Project, including participating at Higher Ground (a therapeutic center for people infected with HIV/AIDS and their families) and Beacon Place (the local hospice). This program attempts to further understand how to eliminate stigmas and stereotypes through a better understanding of how the disease affects people financially, emotionally, psychically, and physically.
