Services for Faculty
Presentations and Programs - The CACL sponsors presentations and programs with academic departments, student organizations, and alumni groups throughout the year. See our Calendar of Events for more information.
Working together, faculty and Career & Community Learning can ensure the transition from student to a member of the work force is as seamless as possible. How can we help you? Following are some of the services we offer:
- We help students find the right fit - We help students determine the right career for their interests, career goals, skills, values, and personality.
- We know employers who want to know you - We work directly with employers, who often ask for the contact information of faculty members who could help them to target students in a particular major, discipline or other areas of interest. We can facilitate that connection.
- Career fairs attract many recruiters to one event - Our career fairs provide excellent opportunities for students to meet representatives from the companies in their industries of choice and establish a network of contacts. We help students research employers and provide interview preparation tips.
Through our affiliation with the North Carolina Career Consortium (NCCC) and colleagues at other institutions, we provide access to more than 20 career and information fairs each year.
- We'll bring the information to your class - We specialize in conducting presentations on a host of topics such as resume writing, life after Guilford, selling non-profit experience on a resume, job-search strategies, and interviewing skills. We can also help out in a pinch: If you need to or are considering canceling a class, just contact us and we can schedule a presentation instead.
- We help students to work for positive change in our society - Each semester students engage in internships, fieldwork associated with an academic class, or volunteer work. Extensive training in the areas of anti-racism, conflict resolution, diversity and feedback skills is provided so students can be equipped to make positive contributions to the community.
- We help students identify and pursue internships for academic credit - Internships provide the opportunity to make informed decisions about a field of study and make valuable contacts.
- We help students locate alternative academic opportunities- There are many ways to enhance education, both during and after a student's academic career. These include international opportunities as well as fellowships and research programs. The academic opportunities database provides information to help you find an opportunity in your area of interest.
- We help students explore faith and vocation - Our Career Liaison for Faith and Vocation helps students establish an inner foundation for discerning their vocation or calling in the outer world of the job market.

GENERAL
To provide faculty and instructors with a better understanding of our services and facilities, we offer tours of the Career and Community Learning Center, presentations at department meetings, and individual appointments. By having this information, you can facilitate more appropriate referrals to Career and Community Learning and understand better how our facilities and services can work into your course requirements.
Many students seek career guidance and assistance from faculty and advisors. Through written publications and individual consultations, we can help you become familiar with career development information, issues, and theories as they relate to the material you present to your students. These may also guide you in meetings with students who bring career concerns to you.
PRESENTATIONS
We are also delighted to come into your classes to offer instruction on various career planning and job search topics. We ask that you contact the Career and Community Learning Center to schedule such presentations.
HANDOUTS
Career and Community Learning handouts can be used as part of academic courses. While we are willing to share our materials with faculty and students, we are not in a position to provide large quantities of these handouts to all courses offered. We can provide a master copy of individual handouts for reproduction through your department. The information contained in our handouts is the property of Career and Community Learning. We ask that you not use information in these materials without proper citation.
MOCK INTERVIEWS
The Mock Interview Program is available to students who want to practice their interviewing techniques before an actual interview.
CAREER INFORMATION
Career and Community Learning houses a library focusing on career information and job vacancy information. Students use the library to research information on careers, graduate schools, internships and summer jobs, prospective employers, job vacancy announcements, and a host of volunteer opportunities. No appointment is necessary to use these facilities; they are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.
If you are considering referring students to Career and Community Learning as a part of your course, we ask that you contact us first. When you contact us prior to developing your syllabus, we can: assist you in integrating career development theories and information into your curriculum, help you determine which services and materials would be most appropriate for your class, and prepare our staff to respond to inquiries by students in your course.
