Guilford Winter Choral Concert to be Dec. 2
Guilford will present the annual Winter Choral Concert, featuring Handel’s Coronation Anthems, on Sunday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Dana Auditorium.
The Guilford College Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Wendy Looker, will be joined by the Guilford College Guitar Ensemble, conducted by Kami Rowan.
George Frederic Handel composed four anthems to be performed at the coronation of the British monarchs King George II and Queen Caroline on October 11, 1727. He later added two of the anthems to a revision of his 1718 oratorio Esther, and used the other two in Deborah (1733). The first anthem, Zadok the Priest, has been sung at every British coronation since 1727, including that of Queen Elizabeth II in June of 1952.
Admission to the concert is free, and donations are welcome. For more information, call 336-316-2423.
