"Soup Bowl" Food Drive Accepting Donations Through Sept. 4
Guilford is now collecting donations of canned food and money for the 13th Annual Soup Bowl Competition, a friendly rivalry with nearby Greensboro College that culminates in the football game between the two schools Sept. 5.
The drive kicks off with an Open Mic Night on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Dana auditorium. Admission to the show is two cans of food.
The college will collect non-perishable food donations next week until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4. Donations may be dropped off at Bonner House, located off Friendly Avenue. Cash and check donations will also be accepted through noon on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The “Soup Bowl” game will take place Saturday, Sept. 5, at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium, hosted by Greensboro College. Admission to the game is two cans of food.
Guilford will also accept two cans of food as admission to its home soccer game against Milligan, at 3 p.m. the same day.
Meriwether Godsey, Guilford’s dining services provider, will match the amount of food Guilford collects once the competition is complete.
Since 1997, the annual drive has collected over 39,000 pounds of food for local food banks, including 9,000 pounds in last year’s competition. This year’s donations will benefit Food Assistance, Inc., and Greensboro Urban Ministries.
