Scott Pryor '02 and the Faintest Lights Perform at Homecoming and Family Weekend Sept. 25

Scott Pryor '02 and his band, The Faintest Lights, will perform during Homecoming and Family Weekend Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. on the central campus quadrangle. Joshua Shelton will open the concert, which is free and open to the public. In event of rain, the event will be held in Dana Auditorium on campus.
Pryor released his second full-length CD, entitled Theater for the Weary, in June. Produced by Devin Greenwood and featuring some of Philadelphia’s finest musicians, Theater reflects Pryor’s growth as a songwriter and collaborator, and his expanding artistic vision. From the rolling and lilting title track, to the crisp and pure heartpouring of “Aida” and “The Faintest Light”, Pryor is a wordsmith in the finest sense.
Jeffrey Barg of Philly Weekly says, “[Pryor] is perhaps the finest acoustic songwriter in Philly right now. On Theater for the Weary, Pryor’s sophomore disc, he masters folk tropes that many artists spend careers cultivating … Like an East Coast Josh Ritter, Pryor pulls off delivering acoustic melancholia with a smile.”
Pryor grew up in North Carolina and Virginia, but now calls Philadelphia home. After attending Guilford, he worked for the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Project for several years, before leaving to focus full-time on music.
He calls his music an “invitation to pay attention” -- for both himself and his audience. Pryor’s songs revel in the grit, bone and redemptive seeds to be found in both the rural and urban landscapes. From swimming holes to skyscrapers, from plows to asphalt playgrounds, Pryor stitches together the strange and mundane bits of a weathered and heroic Americana.
Filled with wonder and longing, Theater for the Weary is ultimately defined by the triumph of earnest joy in spite of the facts — supported by the delight-filled clatter and swoon of new-found musical friends and collaborators.
For this special Guilford concert, Pryor’s band, The Faintest Lights, will include a stellar lineup of musicians: Devin Greenwood (organ, vocals), Tom Bendel (drums), Todd Erk (bass), Emma Morrow (fiddle, vocals), Jake Morrow (banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocals), and Ross Bellenoit (guitar).
