Observatory to Offer Tour of Autumn Sky Sept. 27

The Department of Physics will host the first of its monthly open houses on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Auditorium. Thom Espinola, Glaxo Wellcome Professor of Physics, will present a multi-media presentation, “A Tour of the Autumn Sky,” using the planetarium’s full-dome projector.

Espinola will give a tour of the constellations, planets and deep space objects that can be seen this autumn. The presentation will be followed by a tour of the observatory and, weather permitting, viewing through the main telescope.

The college will also give presentations about Jupiter on Sunday, Oct. 25, and on meteor showers on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The presentation and tour are free and open to the public. Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Auditorium is located in the Frank Family Science Center, accessible by the campus’s North Entrance (Arcadia Drive/George Fox Road).

The Department of Physics presents programs and tours of Cline Observatory monthly during the academic year. For more information, call 316-2193 or visit the observatory’s Web page at www.guilford.edu/observatory.
