April 18 Observatory Talk Shows “What Galileo Saw”

An upcoming open house at Cline Observatory will take the audience back four centuries to stand in the shoes of Renaissance astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei. “What Galileo Saw” will take place Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Auditorium, located in the Frank Family Science Center on the college’s campus.

Assistant Professor of Physics Don Smith will give a multimedia presentation using the auditorium’s planetarium projector to explore the sky as Galileo saw it in 1609, including his observations of the moon, planetary objects and the Milky Way galaxy.

The presentation will be followed by a tour of Cline Observatory and viewing through its main telescope (weather permitting).

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 316-2193 or visit the observatory’s Web page at www.guilford.edu/observatory.
