Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Continues Through Jan. 22
Guilford will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of campus events entitled “Activism: Then and Now” running through, Jan. 22.
Programs—all free and open to the public—will honor and examine the work of the late civil rights leader and explore how present-day activists can continue his legacy of working for social justice.
The series will culminate with a community forum connecting the stories and experiences of past and present activists Thursday, Jan. 22, from 7-9 p.m. in Sternberger Auditorium, located in Founders Hall.
Other events include a viewing of King’s famous 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech and documentaries about the Civil Rights Movement; a celebration of the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama; an essay and art contest; and a talk about King’s relationship to Quakerism.
