Guilford Celebrates "International Days" Through March 31
Through March 31 Guilford will present “International Days,” a series of events celebrating the cultures represented at the college, including discussions, film screenings, art exhibits and more. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
John Muhanji, director of Quaker programs in Kenya and father of Kevin Muhanji ’10, will give a talk entitled "Peace and Conflict Resolution in Kenyan Schools” on Tuesday, March 24, at 8 p.m. in Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Auditorium, located in Frank Family Science Center.
Two art exhibits, both opening March 16, examine aspects of Latin American life. “Nuestras Historias, Nuestros Sueños,” a photo-documentary exhibit on immigration, runs through April 15 in the Founders Hall Commons, with an opening reception Thursday, March 19 from 5-6:30 p.m. “The Road & The Wilderness: Beauty and Destruction in the Peruvian Amazon” runs through April 29 in the Hege Library Art Gallery. A reception for artist David Hewson ’89 will be held Tuesday, March 31 from 5-7 p.m.
The Arab Women Film Series, presented throughout the semester by the English 400 seminar, will continue with a screening of the documentary Algeria: Women at War on Wednesday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. in Joseph M. Bryan Jr. Auditorium. (This film screening is not open to the public.) The International Film Series will open Thursday, March 26 with a screening of Ang Lee’s Eat Drink Man Woman at 8 p.m. in the dining hall (located in Founders Hall). Prior to the screening, college dining services provider Meriwether Godsey will provide a Chinese cooking demonstration.
Additionally, the college’s International Festival will be held Wednesday, March 25, from 12-4 p.m. on the Founders Hall lawn. The Early College at Guilford will also hold an International Fest on Friday, March 27, from 6-9 p.m. in Dana Auditorium, featuring singing and dance performances and food. Admission is $4, and free for children under 7.
