Sept. 17 Artist Lecture Caps “Friends in Fire” Pottery Exhibit

One of the artists in the “Friends in Fire” pottery exhibition currently on display in Guilford College’s Hege Library will give a lecture on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 7-9 p.m. in the library’s art gallery.

Daniel Johnson, a potter from Seagrove, N.C., will show slides from his time as a potter’s apprentice in Thailand and demonstrate a Thai technique for throwing large pots.

Johnson has apprenticed in three different countries. His work combines elements of Southeastern American, English and Asian pottery.

The exhibit also includes pieces by potters David Stuempfle, Kevin Crowe, Trew Bennett and Mary Bowron.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Guilford College Art Gallery at 336-316-2438 or visit www.guilford.edu/artgallery.
