47 Early College Students Will Graduate May 15

The Early College at Guilford will grant diplomas to 47 students at its Commencement exercises on Friday, May 15, at 10 a.m. on the campus quadrangle. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to Ragan-Brown Field House. 

Guilford College President Kent Chabotar will bring greetings from the college. Guilford County Schools Superintendent Maurice Green and Alan Duncan, chairman of the Guilford County Board of Education, will speak on behalf of the public school system. Early College student Stephen Padgett will present greetings on behalf of the senior class.  

Students Caitlyn Holt, Kerri Smoot and Megan Wall will each present senior reflections; Rachel Olsen will deliver congratulations to the senior class; Nhu Quynh Le Doan will deliver the charge to the Class of 2009; and Elizabeth Sheffield will give the class farewell. Additionally, Megan Cherry will present a special music selection.  

Early College Principal Charles Blanchard and Dana Professor of Psychology Kathy Adams will each deliver brief remarks and present diplomas.  

The Early College at Guilford was established in the fall of 2002 through a public-private partnership between Guilford County Schools and Guilford College to provide advanced learners with a quality education in a supportive learning environment. It was the first Early College founded in North Carolina.  

For the last two years, Newsweek has named the Early College at Guilford as one of the nation’s top public high schools.
