Quakers in Business Symposium to Take Place Sept. 20-21
Several area business leaders will take part in the first Quakers in Business Symposium, presented by Guilford’s Friends Center on Sept. 20-21. Topics will include principled business practices, Quaker leadership and business in a global economy.
Two of the participants include this year’s J.M. Ward Distinguished Quaker Visitors, Mark Hulbert and Charlotte Roberts. Hulbert, a former college trustee, is founder and co-editor of The Hulbert Financial Digest. Roberts is an executive consultant and motivational speaker who currently serves on Guilford’s Board of Trustees.
Other participants include:
- Walter Blass, an international business consultant and former director of strategic planning for AT&T;
- Samuel Caldwell, president and CEO of the Planned Giving Company;
- David Edgerton ’62, a retired textile company executive and Guilford trustee emeritus;
- Carole Hunter ’63, founder of Industrial Biomechanics, Inc.;
- Mark Myers, retired vice president at Xerox;
- Martha Summerville ’76, president of Summerville Consulting LLC;
- And Gary York ’65, entrepreneur whose ventures include York Oil, Neighbors Stores, GTY Trucking and WIFM Radio.
The symposium begins at 1 p.m. Sunday with College Meeting for Worship, led by Samuel Caldwell, in the Moon Room, which is located in Dana Auditorium. Interest groups and panel discussions will take place from 2:15-7:30 p.m. at New Garden Friends Meeting.
On Monday, symposium events are scheduled at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., also at New Garden Friends Meeting.
