Observatory Open House to Focus on Stars Feb. 24

The physics department will present “A Star is Born,” a presentation on how stars form, on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Joseph Bryan Jr. Auditorium, located in the Frank Family Science Center.

Following the presentation, there will be tours of Cline Observatory and open viewing if weather permits. Both the presentation and observatory open house are free and open to the public.

Don Smith, an assistant professor of physics, will explain how gravity pulls together large amounts of gas to create stars and groups of stars. Because several gas clouds are relatively close to Earth, it’s possible to view the process of a star being born.
