Bennett President Julianne Malveaux to Speak Feb. 29

Julianne MalveauxJulianne Malveaux, the president of Bennett College, will speak Friday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Room, located in Hege Library. The talk, titled “From Free Frank to Billionaire Bob: Developments in Black Economic History,” is free and open to the public.

Malveaux was named president of Bennett College in 2007. She is a noted economist, syndicated columnist and author recognized for her progressive views, described by Cornel West as “the most iconoclastic public intellectual in the country.”

In addition to her columns and media appearances, Malveaux is an accomplished author and editor. She is the editor of Voices of Vision: African American Women on the Issues (1996) the co-editor of Slipping Through the Cracks: The Status of Black Women (1986) and recently co-edited The Paradox of Loyalty: An African American Response to the War on Terrorism (2002).  She is most recently the co-author of Unfinished Business: A Democrat and A Republican Take On the 10 Most Important Issues Women Face (2002).

A committed activist and civic leader, Malveaux serves on the boards of the Economic Policy Institute, The Recreation Wish List Committee of Washington, D.C. and the Liberian Education Trust.

Malveaux earned her bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in economics from Boston College and a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A native San Franciscan, she is the President/ CEO of Last Word Productions Inc., a multimedia production company headquartered in Washington, D.C.
