Department of Music Presents Scenes From The Little Prince Feb. 28

The Department of Music will present a selection of scenes from Rachel Portman’s opera The Little Prince on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Dana Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The opera, which premiered in 2003, is based on the novel Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery. Directed by Suzanne Galer, an associate professor of music, the cast includes more than a dozen Guilford students and guest artist James R. Jones as the Vain Man.

Jones is a Kegan Organ Scholar and a graduate of the N.C. School of the Arts. He has appeared as organ soloist for recitals on the “Rising Star” series at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh, “Music for a Great Space” series in Greensboro, the prestigious Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C. and recently on the premiere of composer Dan Locklair’s Phoenix for Orchestra with the Winston-Salem Symphony. Jones is the organist/choirmaster at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.

The production is co-sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro. For more information, call the Department of Music at 336-316-2876.
