Bobby Ann Hayes Appointed Principal-Director of The Early College at Guilford
Bobby Ann Hayes, an educator at the K-12, college and university levels since 1988, was appointed principal-director of The Early College at Guilford effective July 1. She succeeds Charles Blanchard, who was named principal of Southeast Guilford High School.
Hayes has worked for Guilford County Schools since March 2002, most recently as secondary instructional improvement officer directing the operation of 13 secondary schools. Previously, she was magnet project director, principal of Peeler Open School for the Performing Arts and principal of Penn-Griffin School for the Arts.
As principal-director of The Early College at Guilford, she will manage a 200-student high school located on the Guilford College campus that has been named one of the top public high schools in the United States by national news magazines. The school was established in 2002 and was the first of its type in North Carolina.
Hayes began her career as an elementary school teacher in Wilkes County Schools in 1988. She was a research assistant, adjunct professor and student teaching supervisor at Appalachian State University and later served as chair of elementary education and assistant professor at Pfeiffer University.
Following two years as a management development instructor for Lowe’s Companies Inc., she returned to Wilkes County Schools as a supervisor and curriculum coordinator for elementary education before moving to Guilford County Schools.
Hayes earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1988, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 1991 and a doctorate in education in 1996—all at Appalachian State. She is a 1984 graduate of North Wilkes High School and was a N.C. Scholar.
Blanchard served as principal-director of The Early College at Guilford from December 2006 until June. The founding principal-director was Tony Burks, who served from 2002-06.
