Art Gallery to Show Pieces From Permanent Collection Through Dec. 10

The Art Gallery will present its second exhibit of the year with "Expressions of the Figure," which runs through Dec. 10. The exhibited works of art come from the gallery's own permanent collection, which has been growing since the first donation made in 1973.

The selected paintings, drawings and prints exemplify the tendency of many artists in the 20th Century to shy away from realistic portrayals of the figure in effort to explore relatively new abstraction techniques. For many of the artists represented in the show, abstracting the human figure meant using looser brush strokes and un-naturalistic colors on the canvas. For others, simplifying the human figure into basic shapes and lines was essential in their creative thought process.

Artists represented in the show include:
  • Leon Golub
  • Robert Broderson
  • Diego Rivera
  • Robbie Tillotson
  • Esther Gentle
  • Abraham Rattner
  • Henry Moore
  • Abraham Walkowitz
