Middle East Peace Series Continues Nov. 6
Friends Center is presenting a series of speakers and programs related to the Middle East that will continue throughout the fall semester. All are free and open to the public, and will take place on the Guilford campus unless otherwise noted.

“Experiencing Iran,” a talk with Quaker ministers David and Lisa Kusse-Wolfe, who spent the last year and a half in Qom, Iran, with a Mennonite partnership program.

“Eyewitness to Israel and Palestine,” a panel discussion with Guilford students who traveled and did volunteer service in the region this summer.

“Peacemaking in Israel, Palestine and Iraq.” Art and Peggy Gish, members of Christian Peacemaker Teams in the Middle East will share about their peace-building efforts in Iraq and between Israelis and Palestinians in Hebron and At-Tuwani.

“Nonviolent Direct Action Training,” a workshop led by Art and Peggy Gish.
Thursday, Sept. 18

“Voices of Israelis and Palestinians.” One Voice, a touring group of Israeli and Palestinian youth, share stories of growing up in a conflicted region.
Monday, Oct. 20
7:30 p.m., New Garden Friends Meeting
“Transcending and Transforming Conflict: Applications in the Middle East,” presented by Johan Galtung, who is an internationally known author, conflict mediator and founder of the academic discipline of peace research. This program is the annual James L. Fleming Peace Lecture on peace and conflict studies.

“An Evening with the Israeli Consul General.” Ambassador Reda Mansour, Consul General of Israel to the Southeast, will speak on Israel’s hope for the region.
Thursday, Nov. 13
7:30 p.m., Founders Hall Gallery
“Methods of Peacemaking in the Middle East.” Maia Hallward, a professor of political science at Kennesaw State University and associate editor of Journal of Peacebuilding and Development, will speak on her research into the methodology of grassroots peace groups in Israel and Palestine.
