Guilford College Political Science Seniors Score Among Highest Nationally on ETS Major Field Test
Graduating seniors in political science recently scored among the highest in the nation on the ETS Major Field Test in Political Science. The Major Field Test in Political Science allows undergraduate political science departments to gauge the progress of students compared to others in similar programs at schools throughout the country.
This year, Guilford placed in the 95th percentile among a wide range of 111 public and independent colleges and universities nationwide. Malcolm Kenton, of Greensboro, scored the highest on this year's test among Guilford students. Guilford was in the 95th percentile in 2007 and in the 90th percentile in 2006.
"Our majors have demonstrated yet again that they rank among the top in the nation," said Kyle Dell, assistant professor of political science. "The department recently enhanced our major to include research methods and a senior project and we look forward to the ways this will strengthen our student's achievements. While standardized testing will never capture the best elements of a Guilford education, our results here help us confirm that we're sending students into the world prepared for engaged citizenship of many varieties."
Guilford was among eight North Carolina colleges and universities participating in the test. The other N.C. institutions were Bennett College, Campbell University, East Carolina University, Greensboro College, Johnson C. Smith University, Pfeiffer University and Queens University of Charlotte.
