Guilford Buzz Guidelines

The Guilford Buzz

Who Submits?
Anyone with a valid Guilford account will have the ability to submit announcements to the Daily Buzz.

Submission and Formatting Guidelines:

  1. Always reserve space for your event with the Student Activities Office so that the event will be included in the list automatically generated by the Event Management System.
  2. Post important and time-sensitive information that is relevant to a wide range of readers. Include time, date and location as needed.
  3. Use the "subject:" line thoughtfully. A good subject line will attract readers by providing a concise summary of the message's theme or topic. Bad subjects like "hey!, read this" will probably be skipped by users who are pressed for time.
  4. Adding emphasis. Consider using the asterisk or the underscore to add emphasis within the message text. Examples: "do *not* delete or "my _new_ car." Avoid using upper case lettering that can indicate anger. Examples: "I CANNOT DO THAT TODAY" or "I cannot do THAT today."
  5. Embedding URLs. It is easy to include hyperlinks to web pages in your message. To create these in a way that is easy simply go to the web page and copy and paste the URL. An example is: http://www.guilford.edu/newsEvents/
  6. Make appropriate announcements only. The Daily Buzz will reach hundreds of people at all levels of the college. Announcements should convey important and time-sensitive information of interest to a wide range of viewers. Do not use the Daily Buzz to make personal/political announcements and statements. If you are posting something for sale/rent, please use the Miscellaneous category.
  7. Only one post per person per day. You may only post one message per day to the Buzz.
  8. Limit sale and for rent announcements to three days. To keep the Buzz short and relevant, please don't post a message with items for sale or rent for more than three days in a two week period.
  9. Please use discretion and restraint. The ability to send campus-wide email other than through these lists is restricted by the >Network Acceptable Use Policy. Campus-wide lists reach hundreds of people at all levels of the college. Remember that personal announcements are not appropriate for campus-wide lists. Should you as a recipient feel that a message in the Daily Buzz is inappropriate, a *polite* e-mail or phone call to the sender is the best response.
  10. If messages are deemed inappropriate or a violation of established policies, the opportunity to submit can be eliminated. For students, sactions under the student code of conduct may apply.

How Does it Work?

  1. The Daily Buzz will automatically include a list of events planned on campus that day from the Event Management System maintained by the Student Activities Office. The list will include a description, time and location of each event.
  2. Employees and students will submit their Daily Buzz announcements by using a Web form.
  3. The Daily Buzz will have a text-only format. The Web submission form will not accept graphics or attached files of any kind.
  4. Announcement text will be limited to a maximum of 255 characters. Text can be copied and pasted from a word-processed document, but formatting will not follow.
  5. The Daily Buzz will be delivered once a day between 2 and 5 a.m. Submissions for a given day must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the previous day.
  6. The Daily Buzz account will not accept e-mail replies.
